Bilateral meetings on the sidelines of SOR29

Meetings of the Minister of Ecology and Natural Resources of the Republic of Kazakhstan Ye.Nysanbayeva with E. Zhukov, Director General of the Asian Development Bank (ADB) for Central and Western Asia, F. Birol, Executive Director of the International Energy Agency (IEA), and P. Kok-Hamilton, Executive Director of the International Trade Center.
During the meeting with ADB, the parties discussed further constructive cooperation in the field of environmental initiatives, the implementation of the climate and energy agenda, including decarbonization and green economy projects.
The NDC Advance initiative was also noted, under which ADB provides significant support to Kazakhstan in the development of investment programs and waste management. Large-scale renovation of energy grids, development of transport corridors and modernization of rural regions remain among the priorities.
During the meeting with the IEA, the Kazakh side expressed gratitude for the contribution to environmental and energy support. The support provided by the IEA in reducing methane emissions was noted. The importance of moving to concrete actions to reduce methane was emphasized and key challenges were identified, including in terms of financing, regulatory development and data collection.
The IEA has offered assistance in terms of sharing experience, expertise and conducting training events for the Kazakh side.
The parties expressed their readiness for close cooperation and announced the signing of a Memorandum of Understanding with the IEA and preparations for the Regional Climate Summit in 2026.
At a bilateral meeting between the Minister and the Executive Director of the International Trade Center (ITC), Pamela Kok-Hamilton, the role of small and medium-sized enterprises in climate change issues, as well as on nationally determined contributions, were discussed.
The ITC noted cooperation with international partners, including the Presidency of the Council on Climate Change, and expressed hope for Kazakhstan's accession to the Declaration of Green Transition.
At the same time, the Minister noted the insufficient attention of small and medium-sized enterprises in the climate agenda and expressed support for the initiative to join the Declaration.
At the end of the meeting, the parties expressed their willingness to cooperate and take joint measures on green financing issues.
