Astana residents, who showed good results at the US Open, returned to the capital, the official website of the city akimat reports.
Valery Yugai and Alpamys Amir from Astana took part in the prestigious USADSS & AWL 2024 OPEN National Para Swimming CHAMPIONSHIP among para athletes with intellectual disabilities. Following the results of the competition, Valery Yugai, who participated in the 17 & Under category, won 3 gold and 1 silver medals in freestyle swimming, and Alpamys Amir won 3 bronze medals in the 18 & Over category.
"Last year, at the famous Virtus tournament held in France, the results were low, and we were unable to take the prize. Therefore, we did not expect that there would be so many awards at the U.S. Open during the year. Moreover, it has been a few years since para swimming drew attention to those who have intellectual development characteristics. We achieved a high result thanks to the coach, the solidarity of the Federation," said Sailaubek Yernur, a para-swimming coach.
In addition to Kazakhstan, about 100 pairs of athletes from the USA, Canada, Colombia, Mexico, Japan, Portugal, Australia, and Poland took part in the open championship organized in the USA.
Our compatriots will now start preparing for the Virtus World Championship in Thailand and the Asian Junior Para Games, which will be held in Uzbekistan in 2025.
