Representatives of the world-famous Frankfurt Book Fair expressed interest in cooperation with Almaty libraries, publishers and writers.
Mayor of Almaty Yerbolat Dosayev received President and CEO of Frankfurter Buchmesse Jurgen Boos.
During the meeting, the Frankfurt side noted the uniqueness of Almaty as a multinational city and expressed a desire to establish long-term partnerships. In turn, Yerbolat Dosayev stressed that the akimat pays special attention to the modernization of libraries and the creation of modern public spaces, and also spoke about innovative and creative solutions that Almaty is successfully implementing in city libraries.
"Despite the growing trend of using e-books, I am sure that nothing will replace the feeling of reading printed books, touching paper pages. According to the activity of libraries, we see that our residents are very fond of books, and we, in turn, actively contribute to this. Today, 95% of the city's libraries have been modernized. We are opening new modern libraries in all areas of the city and installing autonomous libraries in crowded places – in shopping and entertainment centers, community centers and other places. We also support writers and contemporary authors," said Mayor of Almaty Yerbolat Dosayev.
Jurgen Boos, President and Executive Director of the Frankfurt Book Fair, expressed his willingness to hold seminars for local authors and publishers in Almaty, as well as to advise them on large-scale book events.
"We came to Kazakhstan on purpose, it is important for us to establish contact and cooperate with Almaty. We not only hold fairs, but also promote publishing. I believe that publishing requires big changes, and we can share our experience in this area. We previously advised the organizers of book fairs that took place in Mexico, South Africa and the UAE. That is, we have a lot of experience in this area. We would also like to invite Kazakhstan to become an honorary guest of the Frankfurt Book Fair," said Jurgen Boos.
At the end of the meeting, the parties agreed to develop joint projects in Almaty in 2025 and strengthen cultural and business ties.
