The championship of Kazakhstan in hunting with hunting birds among young men and teenagers was held in the village of Botakara, Bukhar-Zhyrau district, Karaganda region. 60 athletes from 11 regions of the country, Astana and Almaty competed for the title of the most skillful berkutchi.
They put up 40 golden eagles, 17 hawks and 9 falcons for the competition.
Hunters competed in the ability to lure birds by hand, guide them during hunting and hunting for prey.
Kazbek Zhandaulet from Karaganda region became the third in the golden eagle hunt. The first and second places were taken by representatives of Zhambyl and Almaty regions.
One golden eagle was allowed to perform with several different birds in certain categories at once.
Darkhan Kenes from Akmola region participated in competitions with a golden eagle and a falcon.
– My older brother was the first to engage in traditional hunting with hunting birds. I gradually became interested too and began to train with him. We have both falcons and golden eagles. If you have time, you can learn how to work with different birds," he says.
At the championship, Darkhan took second place, performing with a falcon. He was also among the finalists hunting with golden eagles, but did not take a prize in this category.
– In traditional hunting, many different factors can play a role. These are the weather, the terrain, the pressure, the mood of the bird. It does not always depend on the skills and experience of berkutchi himself, although, undoubtedly, they also play a key role. I don't have much experience yet: my brother usually goes to competitions, and I stay at home, look after the birds. But last year I took the third place with the golden eagle at the competitions in Kokshetau," Darkhan Kenes said.
The first place in falconry was taken by a representative of the Almaty region, and the third was a resident of the capital.
The best in hawk hunting are participants from Turkestan, Zhambyl and Almaty regions.
The winners and prize-winners were awarded cash certificates for 500, 300 and 200 thousand tenge.
