An unscheduled meeting of the regional commission for the prevention and liquidation of emergency situations was held under the chairmanship of Akim of the region Nurlan Urankhayev. The issue of preparing for the flood period of 2025 was considered.
According to the Department of Emergency Situations, work on the implementation of the Engineering Protection Plan for settlements is actively continuing. Of the 63 planned activities, 50 have been fully completed, which is 80% of the total. The remaining 10 events in Borodulikha and Kokpekty districts are scheduled to be completed by the end of November.
For rapid response to emergency situations, a grouping of forces and means has been created: 1,345 people, 460 pieces of equipment, 19 swimming facilities, as well as 161 water pumping devices. In addition, the Department of Emergency Situations purchased 11 boats and 2 snowmobiles.
There are 38 retaining hydraulic structures operating in the territory of the Abai region today, including reservoirs, dams and waterworks. In 2025, design and estimate documentation will be developed for the reconstruction of two reservoirs and four storage ponds.
According to the mayor, the implementation of a comprehensive plan for the development of the water industry, approved by the Government of the Republic of Kazakhstan, will minimize risks and ensure the safety of the population during floods.
"Our main task is to protect the population from the effects of the spring flood. Systematic work is being carried out in this direction: equipment is being updated, the group of rescuers is being strengthened, measures are being implemented to strengthen hydraulic structures. By the flood period of 2025, the region should be 100% ready. I instruct the mayors of cities and districts to keep the issues of preparation for the flood period under strict control," Nurlan Urankhayev stressed.
It should be recalled that this year significant funds have been allocated for the inspection of hydraulic structures and the regulation of riverbeds in a number of rural districts.
