East Kazakhstan is one of the most avalanche-prone regions in the Republic. The territory serviced by the Kazselezashchita branch has 325 avalanche collections, 93 kilometers of roads that fall into the avalanche impact zone, as well as tourist and ski bases, with more than 3 thousand people vacationing on holidays and weekends.
"The branch of the State Institution Kazselezashchita has developed 20 snow-avalanche routes, where 160 snow-measuring rails are installed, which are serviced by specialists of the branch. In order to identify the general condition of avalanche collections for the presence of a threat of avalanches, accumulation of snow mass and determination of snow structure, ground surveys of avalanche-prone areas are conducted weekly. Warning boards and posters were installed in time in recreation areas, ski bases and along highways for the avalanche-prone period," said Sovetbek Stanbekov, head of the Kazselezashchita branch.
At the moment, the snow height in the region ranges from 5 to 60 cm, the largest amount of snow was recorded in the Samar region, Ridder and Glubokovsky district, Gornaya Ulbinka settlement.
Last year, during the entire winter period, 101 preventive avalanche descents were carried out with a total volume of 230 thousand cubic meters of snow.
"Before going to the mountains, it is necessary to familiarize yourself with the weather conditions. With storm warnings from the 112 service, do not take risks and do not be on avalanche-prone routes," warned Arman Nauryzbayev, head of the Emergency Prevention Department of the Emergency Situations Ministry.
According to experts, avalanches occur mainly in mountainous areas, where a huge amount of snow accumulates. The cause of an avalanche can be prolonged snowfall, intense melting of snow, fluctuations in the air environment, clipping of the snow slope by skiers, loud screams and skiing from the slopes.
