A center for people without a fixed place of residence has been opened in the South-East of Karaganda. This is a social project of an NGO and the Office for the Coordination of Employment and Social Programs.
According to the department, an agreement has been signed with the NGO "Kamkorlyk ortalygy" since November. According to the state social order, the public association will provide services to help people who find themselves in a difficult life situation.
According to the director of the NGO "Kamkorlyk ortalygy" Darkhan Abdirahman, employees travel daily through the streets of Karaganda and look for homeless people. The data is recorded, a questionnaire is drawn up, if necessary, they contact the district police officer. They also provide them with assistance in recovering lost documents, provide food and clothing, and provide a place in the center.
– We often treat our guests, and then we employ them. The other day, for example, a man was brought from the railway station. He explained that he had nowhere to live, there was no one from his family. They also monitored social networks and found out that a man has been wandering along Stroiteley Avenue for two years. While he was serving his sentence in prison, his brother and his family occupied his parents' apartment. When he was released, he had nowhere to live. They brought him to us, washed him, cut his hair, gave him clean clothes, and now they have to treat him, since he has problems with his legs. Later, if his health condition allows, we will help him with employment, where the employer will provide shelter. People with different destinies come to us," said the director of the NGO "Kamkorlyk Ortalygy".
As Darkhan Abdirahman noted, more than 20 people now live in the center. Their number is constantly changing, someone leaves on their own, as they are used to leading an antisocial lifestyle. Then an act of unauthorized refusal is drawn up. There are people who immediately want to be useful and earn a living. They are mostly women.
In total, the project provides assistance to 100 people.
