At the 29th Conference of the Parties to the United Nations Framework Convention on Climate Change (COP29), held in Baku, Kazakhstan presented an initiative for the development of carbon farming.
Speaking at the Summit of World Leaders on Climate Action, held within the framework of the 29th Conference of the Parties to the United Nations Framework Convention on Climate Change, President Kassym-Jomart Tokayev stressed the importance of the transition to sustainable agriculture.
The Head of State noted that Kazakhstan, which has 200 million hectares of agricultural land, is an ideal platform for the introduction of "carbon farming", that is, such methods of agricultural production that reduce emissions and improve soil quality, and invited interested parties to explore the country's potential in this industry.
During the side event on the topic "Carbon farming in Kazakhstan: unlocking the potential", in his introductory speech, Vice Minister of Ecology and Natural Resources Mansur Oshurbayev noted that: "By introducing carbon farming, we will be able to both reduce carbon emissions and support sustainable agriculture."
Chairman of the Committee on Land Management of the Ministry of Agriculture of the Republic of Kazakhstan Murat Temirzhanov spoke about the measures taken to promote carbon farming.
"The development of carbon farming in Kazakhstan requires not only new technologies, but also serious legislative work," Murat Temirzhanov noted.
International and national experts discussed the prospects for the introduction of carbon farming in Kazakhstan, summarizing that Kazakhstan has every chance to become a leader in the introduction of carbon farming methods. This can contribute to the modernization of the country's technological structure and the creation of many jobs.
The event was organized by the Ministry together with FAO in the Qazaqstan pavilion.
