The Executive Committee of the International Fund for Saving the Aral Sea (IC IFAS), within the framework of the Conference of the Parties to the United Nations Framework Convention on Climate Change (COP29), held a parallel event on the theme "Central Asia towards improving the efficiency of transboundary water resources management in the Aral Sea basin, taking into account climate impacts."
The Regional Program of the German Society for International Cooperation (GIZ) "Green Central Asia" and the International Water Assessment Center were the co-organizers of the side event aimed at strengthening and expanding partnership between the IFAS founding states and international development partners.
During the event, the participants discussed climate risks for the water sector in Central Asia, as well as obstacles and barriers to the implementation of joint measures. The participants shared their assessments on measures to adapt to climate change in the Aral Sea basin and minimize the negative impact of climate on water resources.
The panel sessions also discussed ways to improve practical cooperation and coordination between Central Asian countries and international partners in implementing projects and programs in the Aral Sea basin aimed at adapting and mitigating the effects of climate change.
