Within the framework of COP29, an event was held on the theme "Effective plastic waste management for climate sustainability: understanding challenges and searching for opportunities", organized by the Azerbaijani side. The main report was delivered by the Vice-Minister of Ecology and Natural Resources of the Republic of Kazakhstan M. Oshurbaev.
During his speech, the Vice Minister noted that plastic waste is not only an environmental problem, but also a climate problem. The production, use and disposal of plastic are associated with high greenhouse gas emissions, which significantly contributes to the carbon footprint.
During the event, special attention was paid to the importance of intersectoral cooperation for the introduction of a circular economy and innovative approaches to waste management.
