Kazakhstan and Sakhalin strengthen cooperation in the field of carbon regulation and the climate agenda

As part of the development of bilateral cooperation, on November 20, 2024, the Vice Minister of Ecology and Natural Resources of the Republic of Kazakhstan, M.T. Oshurbaev, held a meeting with the Deputy Chairman of the Government of the Sakhalin Region of the Russian Federation, V.V. Alenkov.
During the meeting, the key issues of the exchange of experience in the creation of carbon regulation systems were discussed. Both sides expressed their willingness to work together to improve climate policy and implement environmental initiatives.
Special attention was paid to the following:
Invitation to the international Forum: Sakhalin Oblast plans to invite the delegation of the Republic of Kazakhstan to the International Environmental and Climate Forum of the BRICS countries, which will be held on May 15-16, 2025 in Sakhalin. The Forum will become an important platform for the exchange of ideas and best practices in the field of sustainable development.
The Sakhalin Region also plans to achieve carbon neutrality by the end of 2025.
In turn, the Strategy for achieving Carbon Neutrality of the Republic of Kazakhstan until 2060 serves as an example for the development of a similar document.
At the end of the meeting, the parties confirmed their mutual interest in further developing partnership in the climate sector aimed at ensuring a sustainable future.
