Kazakhstan strengthens climate cooperation in the international arena

Kazakhstan continues to actively promote the climate agenda, strengthening international cooperation within the framework of the United Nations Framework Convention on Climate Change (UNFCCC). At COP29, representatives of the country discussed with Maria Misovikova, Head of the UNFCCC Resource Mobilization and Partnership Department, key initiatives to implement national climate goals.
Achievements and plans of Kazakhstan:
Achieving carbon neutrality by 2060. A roadmap is being developed that includes industry-specific measures to reduce emissions.
Biannual Transparency Reports (BTR). In September 2024, Kazakhstan held a joint event with the UNFCCC in Astana aimed at preparing reports that will be submitted to the organization's Secretariat in early 2025.
Development of a new contribution (NDC). Kazakhstan is ready to present an updated contribution in early 2025, focusing on specific measures in key sectors of the economy.
Future initiatives:
Kazakhstan has proposed holding a Regional Climate Summit in 2026, which will become a platform for coordinating approaches and measures in the Central Asian region. Key directions:
Support for the climate transition.
Adaptation to climate change.
Ensuring food security.
An inclusive and fair transition.
A Project office on Climate Change and Green Energy in Almaty will be established to coordinate efforts. Kazakhstan counts on the support of the UNFCCC, including holding a summit under the auspices of the organization.
Conclusion of the memorandum:
Within the framework of the climate partnership, Kazakhstan proposed to sign a memorandum of cooperation with the UNFCCC, the text of which was previously presented at the conference in Bonn.
Kazakhstan expresses gratitude for the support and is ready to further strengthen the partnership to achieve global climate goals.
