A press conference dedicated to the films presented in the competition programs of the XVII International Film Festival "Eurasia" was held in Almaty.
On the first day, the audience watched 4 films: "We need to make films about love" (Russia, India, 2022) "Nirvana" (Bangladesh, 2022), "Where the Whores Dance" (Sakha Republic, Russia) and "Melody" (Tajikistan and Iran).
At a meeting with the filmmakers, the directors and producers shared unique stories about the creation of their films and revealed the secrets behind their projects.
Asif Islam, the director of the film "Nirvana", said that the film was shot in Bangladesh, the work took two years. The idea of the film is that it has no dialogue.
"Bangladesh is a densely populated country, where it can be very noisy, there is a lot of information, especially verbal. That's why we cut out all the dialogue to focus on the inner emotions of the characters. The film was inspired by Renaissance artists. We wanted to create the effect of a painting on canvas – static, but deep," Asif Islam added.
Valeria Motorueva, producer of the film "Where the Sterks Dance", noted that this film became the third largest collection in the Sakha Republic. Spot screenings were held in Russia and at other film festivals.
"His festival story continues and will continue next year. The magic of Yakut cinema lies in sincerity. Here, people work with a small budget, often at their own expense. A director can shoot today, be a driver tomorrow, and an editor the day after tomorrow. Everyone helps each other, which makes the movie really soulful," the producer noted.
In addition, she spoke about the work of composer Moisei Kobyakov: "This is something outstanding. He spent a long time creating the soundtrack, adding the last elements after finishing computer graphics. His music perfectly complements the visual tension of the film."
The director of the film "Melody" Behruz Sebt Rasul told about his film:
"The film was shot in Iran and Tajikistan. This is a poetic story about a girl who has to create a melody with the help of birdsong. The film has already been nominated by Tajikistan for the Oscar as the best foreign language film."
The first day of the competition programs set a high bar for further screenings. The films illustrate how cinema is able to transcend cultural boundaries and speak to an audience in the language of emotion.
