The Kazakh scientific delegation met with the heads of the Apostolic Archive and the Vatican Library
In order to implement the business partnership agreements signed in 2022 between the R.B.Suleimenov Institute of Oriental Studies and the Vatican Apostolic Archive and the Vatican Apostolic Library, a Kazakh scientific delegation arrived at the Vatican. The delegation was headed by Vice Minister of Science and Higher Education of the Republic of Kazakhstan Darkhan Ahmed-Zaki. She was greeted by the Vice-Prefect of the Apostolic Archives of the Vatican, Dr. Paolo Vian, and a researcher at the Vatican Archives, Professor Enrico Fliani.
On the part of Kazakhstan, the meeting was attended by Vice-Minister of Science and Higher Education Darkhan Ahmed-Zaki, Ambassador of Kazakhstan to Switzerland, to the Holy See, to Liechtenstein and the Order of Malta Kairat Sarzhanov, Director General of the Institute of Oriental Studies named after R.B.Suleimenov, philologist, Doctor of Sciences, Professor Duken Masimkhanovich, head of the scientific project, Doctor of Historical Sciences Professor, Honorary Academician of the National Academy of Sciences of Kazakhstan, famous scientist Kalkaman Zhumagulov, PhD, Professor Nurtas Abdimomynov, PhD, sinologist Ainur Abidenovna, senior researcher Bagdat Duisenov.
At the beginning of the meeting, Vice Minister of Science and Higher Education Darkhan Ahmed-Zaki noted that the study of valuable manuscripts stored in the Vatican Library and Archive could be the key to a deep study of the rich history of the Turkic world and stressed the importance of this process. He also recalled that earlier this year, during the official visit of Kazakh President Kassym-Jomart Tokayev to Italy, an agreement was reached on access of Kazakhstani scientists to Vatican archives and libraries as a result of a meeting with Pope Francis.
The Director General of the Institute of Oriental Studies, Professor Duken Masimkhanovich, noted that cooperation between scientific institutions of the two countries opens up unique opportunities for Kazakhstani scientists to freely access rare manuscripts, which will lead to the introduction into scientific circulation of new data on the Turkic world and the history of Kazakhstan.
During the meeting, Vice-Prefect Dr. Paolo Vian and Professor Enrico Flajani greeted the Kazakh delegation with special respect and expressed their willingness to support their scientific initiatives. They stressed their interest in developing mutual relations and strengthening scientific and cultural ties between the countries.
