The famous boxer, Olympic champion and Val Barker Cup winner Serik Sapiev has taken up the duties of the head of the Department of Physical Culture and Sports of the Karaganda region. After the approval of his candidacy by the special commission in the Ministry of Tourism and Sports of the Republic of Kazakhstan, the appointment order was signed by the head of the region Ermaganbet Bulekpayev.
The new head was introduced to the sports community by Deputy akim of the region Oraz Taurbekov.
– In coordination with the Agency for Civil Service Affairs and the Ministry of Tourism and Sports, Serik Zhumangalievich Sapiev was appointed head of the Department of Physical Culture and Sports of the Karaganda region. We believe that his practical skills and knowledge will help him unlock his potential in his new position," said Oraz Taurbekov.
The deputy akim of the region thanked the former head of the department Temirkhan Abylaev for the work done.
Serik Sapiyev expressed gratitude for the trust and assured that he would do his best to develop sports in the region.
– As the Head of State said, the vertical of power should be built. Ahead is the adoption of a new law, which will take into account the sports that need to be paid attention to. Karaganda sport has a great glorious history. It is necessary to regain the leading position. I have my own plans and ideas. I want to make my native land more athletic. First, I want to hear and visit all subordinate organizations, and I will travel around the region. Based on the results of the review, we will make decisions," Serik Sapiyev shared his plans in an interview.
Serik Sapiev has higher education in several qualifications: "teacher of physical culture", "jurisprudence", "state and local government", scholarship holder of the international Bolashak program in the specialty "sports management".
He started his career in the Kazakhstan Boxing Federation: he was a coach-teacher, then a sports director. He headed the professional sports club "Astana Arlans". In 2017, he was elected a deputy of the Mazhilis of the Parliament of the Republic of Kazakhstan. In January 2019, he joined the civil service – for almost three years he headed the Committee on Sports and Physical Culture of the Ministry of Culture and Sports of the Republic of Kazakhstan. Then he held the position of Deputy Secretary General of the National Olympic Committee of the Republic of Kazakhstan. From April 2022 to the present appointment, he worked as the Managing Director for Sports Development of MTEX management LLP, is the Vice-president of the National Olympic Committee of the Republic of Kazakhstan.
