In Almaty, more than 1,800 employees of public utilities and hundreds of pieces of equipment are struggling with the consequences of heavy snowfall, which covered the city with a 16-centimeter-thick layer of precipitation on the night of January 7-8. All services are working to ensure that the city continues to function as usual.
Cleaning is carried out around the clock, both on the central city streets and in residential areas.
"The roadbed has been treated with anti-icing agents, as well as public transport stops have been cleared. After that, we moved on to sweeping and shoveling snow. In two nights, we managed to remove about 15,200 cubic meters of snow throughout the city," Asset Tulegenov, chief engineer of the Almaty Tazalyk State Enterprise, said.
He noted that the cleaning process is organized in such a way as to minimize the impact of weather conditions on traffic.
"Our teams are working smoothly, and modern technology allows us to speed up the process and achieve high–quality cleaning," he stressed.
Dina Munarbayeva, senior foreman of the Medeu district road workers, who has been working in this field for more than eight years, said that despite the difficult circumstances, her team strives to act promptly.
"We are removing the snow quickly so that the streets of the city remain safe. Despite the frosts and night shifts, our team is in a New Year's mood. This helps to maintain team spirit and effectively cope with tasks," she said.
Dina Munarbayeva is known among her colleagues as an inexhaustible source of inspiration. She loves to sing, and her repertoire includes simple and well-loved songs. Thanks to her singing, the working atmosphere becomes warm and positive even on frosty days, and monotonous work turns into a joint activity that unites the team.
"Snow and frost are just nature, and our optimism is stronger than any bad weather," jokes Dina Munarbayeva. She always supports her colleagues with jokes and kind words, helping them cope with cold shifts. In addition, her organizational skills allow her to quickly find solutions to even the most difficult situations: equipment breakdowns, unexpected snowfalls — all these are just new challenges for her to overcome.
"We are not working for the sake of gratitude, but so that the residents of the city can continue their lives unchanged," she adds, starting to sing another tune, to which her team continues to clean the streets of Almaty.
The city services assure that snow removal will continue without interruptions. Minor streets and inter-block driveways are scheduled to be cleared in the coming days. Thanks to such professionals as Dina Munarbayeva,
Almaty remains clean and safe even in the most severe weather conditions.
