In Almaty, as part of the instructions of the mayor of the city, Yerbolat Dosayev, a snow melting plant was opened, where, for the first time in Kazakhstan, environmentally friendly melting technology and efficient snow disposal were used.
The new facility was built on the base where the anti-icing reagents of the Almaty Tazalyk KGP were previously stored. The need to create it is associated with the growing burden on the city's infrastructure and the increase in snowfall in recent years.
The operation of the snow melting point is based on the use of wastewater heat, which flows through the existing sewer network. Warm water under pressure passes through a system of pumping units and pipelines, dissolving snow. After that, the resulting meltwater enters the filter, is cleaned of sand and debris, and then into the city sewer network. The installation capacity is up to 1,200 cubic meters of snow per day.
Snow is removed from the territories of Auezovsky, Almalinsky and Bostandyk districts to the snow melting point. In these areas, the issue of snow removal is most acute, and traffic does not allow efficient removal of snow from the main streets.
In addition, this solution can significantly reduce the time and resources spent on snow removal outside the city, as well as reduce the negative impact on the environment.
According to Yertay Kasenov, Deputy Director of the Almaty Tazalyk State Enterprise, the introduction of a snow melting point is a significant step in ensuring environmental sustainability and improving the quality of life in the metropolis.
"In recent years, winter precipitation has become more intense, and we are forced to look for new solutions for effective snow disposal. The snow melting point is a modern alternative to the traditional method when snow is transported to landfills," Yertay Kasenov added.
It should be noted that the project is aimed at improving the winter maintenance of city streets and increasing comfort for Almaty residents in winter.
