In 2025, as part of the Year of Working Professions, a number of significant events will be held in the capital aimed at increasing the prestige of working professions and attracting young people to the real sector of the city's economy. This was announced by the head of the Astana City Education Department Kasymkhan Sengaziev, the official website of the Astana Akimat reports.
One of the key events will be the City Championship of Professional Skills in the "WorldSkills", "JasSkills" and "DeafSkills" formats. More than 500 people are expected to participate in 49 competencies at 15 sites located in colleges and universities in the capital. The number of participants is growing every year, especially among schoolchildren and people with disabilities. The winners of the championship will have the opportunity to participate in the National Championship, which will be held this fall.
In addition, the expansion of the college-based education project for grades 10-11 will continue in 2025. High school students will be able to gain practical skills and work qualifications in one of ten professions, including seamstress, baker, cook, hairdresser, florist, furniture manufacturing specialist and electric and gas welder. Upon completion of the courses, students will receive a certificate and a certificate of qualification.
As part of the career guidance work, specialized classes focused on various sectors of the economy will be opened in 100 schools in the city. It is planned to create 40 teaching, 10 medical, 10 sewing, 10 service classes and 10 design classes. These classes will work in collaboration with universities and colleges, conducting regular career guidance events.
One of the important directions will be the internationalization of colleges and the conclusion of agreements with foreign educational institutions. Memorandums of cooperation have already been signed with colleges in Singapore, France and Turkey. Within the framework of these agreements, the exchange of experience between teachers and students will develop.
New college-based resource centers are also planned to be opened as part of the Year of Working Professions. These centers will be equipped with modern educational programs and equipment for practical training, as well as conduct short-term courses on work qualifications. More than 90 training programs have been developed for this purpose.
To increase the attractiveness of technical and vocational education in Astana, the material and technical base of colleges will be modernized with the involvement of private investments and funds from the local budget. It is also planned to build a 1,000-bed college dormitory in 2025, which will help solve the shortage of places.
Special attention will be paid to the international certification of colleges. The Colleges of Public Catering and Service, ASTANA POLYTECHNIC and the College of Technology will cooperate with international organizations such as Richemont (Switzerland) and CITY & GUILDS (Great Britain), which will increase the competitiveness of their graduates in the global labor market.
An important step in the development of working professions will be the expansion of employers' participation in personnel training. The inclusion of enterprises in teacher internships and the organization of the Professional Communication Employers' forum, which will be attended by 200 employers in the city, will help strengthen partnerships between businesses and educational institutions.
As part of the Year of Working Professions, Astana will also host a number of international, national and city events to promote working professions. Championships in cooking, sewing, gastronomy, creative contests, sports competitions and festivals such as "AstauFest-2025" will attract participants from all over the world.
Cultural and sporting events are also planned, including a city soccer tournament among utility workers, a national games championship among railway workers, and a spartakiad among life support workers in the capital. These events contribute to strengthening corporate culture and mutual understanding between various sectors of the economy and the social sphere.
