Key issues related to the development of breeding and seed production, as well as spring field work in 2025 were discussed at a meeting in NANOC.
It was attended by the heads of subsidiaries and experienced agronomists.
The meeting participants considered a number of topical issues related to the adaptation of agronomic practices to various natural and climatic zones of Kazakhstan, conducting a sowing campaign, and improving the efficiency of agricultural producers.
Problematic issues in the field of breeding were also voiced. Temirzhan Aitbayev, Chairman of the Board of the Kazakh Scientific Research Institute of Fruit and Vegetable Production, proposed testing foreign varieties on a fee basis, since today about 75-80% of the varieties included in the commission are foreign. This will allow funds to be used to increase the material and technical base and wages of employees. According to him, special attention should be paid to reviewing the subsidy mechanism: it is proposed to restore the ratio of 70% for domestic seeds and 30% for foreign seeds, as well as to provide farmers with a choice between seed producers.
During the meeting, the results of the work of the A.I. Baraev NPCKH team for 2024 were announced. The center's agronomists monitored the districts of the Akmola region and selected seven agricultural entities for pilot implementation of new technologies on a total area of more than 2,600 hectares. Five training seminars for agricultural entities were also held.
Chairman of the Board of the Kazakh Research Institute of Agriculture and Crop Production Sholpan Bastaubayeva noted that seed production is one of the key areas that directly affects the yield and quality of crops. However, Kazakhstan is still heavily dependent on seed imports. To solve this problem, the Government of Kazakhstan has approved a Comprehensive plan for the development of breeding and seed production for 2024-2028, which will become the basis for creating competitive varieties and increasing self-sufficiency in seed production.
