Preparations for spring floods have been intensified in the Turkestan region. This issue was discussed at the weekly meeting of the regional akim's office. Akim of Turkestan region Nuralkhan Kusherov instructed the heads of responsible departments and akims of districts and cities to strengthen flood prevention measures and perform their tasks efficiently.
– Analyze all areas at risk of flooding and strengthen security measures. All water bodies in the region, including reservoirs, canals, rivers and lakes, must be under strict control. There should be no negligence. Keep the Shardara reservoir under surveillance and carry out planned activities for the region's water bodies," Nuralkhan Kusherov said after hearing reports from akims and heads of responsible structures. Specific instructions were given.
According to the head of the Department of Emergency Situations of the Turkestan region, Colonel of Civil Protection Askar Tuleshev, to date, 28 measures have been completed from the engineering action plan for the winter-spring flood period of 2024-2025, and 3 more are in the process of implementation. As a result of the work performed, 68.2 kilometers of drainage channels were mechanically cleaned. In the Kelessky district, 14 kilometers of irrigation ditches were cleared, 350 meters of canals were concreted in Saryagash, and 500 meters of the Arys riverbed were adjusted in the Sairam district. 5 dams have been installed in Sauran and Otyrar districts. These measures are already yielding positive results.
In addition, 461 kilometers of irrigation ditches (1,203 objects), 165 channels with a total length of 654 kilometers and 30 kilometers of culverts were cleaned as part of the emergency prevention plan for the autumn-spring period of 2024-2025.
263 pieces of equipment have been involved in these works. 109,000 bags, 1,416 tons of inert materials and 141 tons of fuel were also harvested. Memoranda have been signed with entrepreneurs to provide food and household needs in case of emergency. Out of 5,123 culverts on national and regional roads, 4,098 were cleaned, and 282 out of 353 objects under railway tracks.
There are 42 reservoirs in the region, with an average occupancy rate of 33%. The Shardara reservoir receives 1,215 cubic meters of water per second, and the discharge is 1,305 cubic meters per second, which corresponds to 86% occupancy.
The meeting also heard a report by Kazibek Bedebayev, Director of the Turkestan branch of RSE Kazvodkhoz. He suggested timely and high-quality implementation of projects related to water bodies.
It should be noted that 1,064 personnel, 124 pieces of equipment, 11 boats and 92 motor pumps have been trained in the region to prevent emergencies during the spring flood period. Preparations for the spring flood are under strict control of the regional administration.
