Katarzhina Vaviernia, the Permanent Representative of the UNDP in Kazakhstan, visited our region today. During the meeting, Akim of North Kazakhstan Gauez Nurmukhambetov and Katarzhina Vaviernia discussed key issues of strengthening cooperation between the region and the UNDP, as well as prospects for further work.
The UNDP and the Government of the Republic of Kazakhstan are actively cooperating to promote sustainable economic growth in the regions. In its work, UNDP uses an integrated approach that helps attract and scale private investment through relatively small amounts of donor funds, thereby creating a multiplier effect that promotes sustainable development.
For example, in the North Kazakhstan region, UNDP has supported the implementation of more than 10 SME projects interested in the introduction of green technologies. And $1 million of donor funds used through financial instruments helped attract more than $3 million in private investment.
At the meeting, Katarzyna Vaviernia proposed launching a joint pilot project to integrate sustainable economic development into regional planning. This project provides for the development of a five-year territorial development program that will take into account landscape planning, adaptation to climate change, the promotion of sustainable agriculture, the development of green value chains, the conservation of biodiversity and the integration of the climate agenda into planning processes at the regional level.
"We support this initiative and are interested in implementing a pilot project. Measures aimed at increasing agricultural productivity, improving resilience to climate risks and effective prevention of natural disasters are particularly important for our region. This meeting allowed us to compare hours and identify ways to expand cooperation with the UNDP. I am confident that through joint efforts we will be able to achieve significant results and accelerate the implementation of sustainable and innovative solutions that will have a positive impact on the development of our region," the head of the region wrote on social networks.
