During a working trip to Zhetysu region, Minister of Transport Marat Karabayev got acquainted with the results of the reconstruction of the Lepsy –Balkhash highway, carried out as part of the instructions of the Head of State to develop the tourism potential and improve the road infrastructure of the region. This section leads to the southeastern shore of the unique Lake Balkhash and plays a key role in improving the transport accessibility of new tourist sites and remote settlements in the region.
✅The length of the renovated section from the village of Lepsy to Balkhash was 27 km. During the reconstruction, the width of the road was increased from 6 to 7 meters, and the category was transferred from V to III. All work was completed and the facility was put into operation in October last year. The road facility was implemented at the expense of the local executive body.
In addition, Marat Karabayev got acquainted with the reconstruction of the Almaty – Ust-Kamenogorsk–Lepsy–Aktogay highway, within the framework of which 110 km of this section is being reconstructed. So, according to the results of the last road construction season, 87% of the work was completed: the lower layer of asphalt concrete was laid on 55 km of the road, and the lower layer of pavement was completed on 20 km.
The completion of all works by the local akimat is scheduled for the end of the third quarter of 2025.
In 2024, the reconstruction of the Karaganda– Almaty highway was completed, a significant section of which, with a length of about 300 km, runs along the western shore of Lake Balkhash. The implementation of this project has not only significantly strengthened transport links between the northern and southern regions of the country, but also provided convenient access to the unique Lake Balkhash from the west.
It is worth noting that last year, a major infrastructure project was implemented in Zhetysu region as part of the instructions of the Head of State. The reconstruction of the Taldykorgan–Ust-Kamenogorsk highway has been completed.
This strategically important route not only improves transport links between the regions, but also opens up new prospects for the development of domestic tourism. The road also serves as an important link leading to the popular tourist destination, Lake Alakol.
In addition, the Minister of Transport visited the Lepsy railway station, which will also be upgraded as part of the development of the railway network.
