In order to stabilize potato prices in the domestic market, on January 18, 2025, at a meeting of the Interdepartmental Commission on Trade, it was decided to limit potato exports to third countries for a period of 6 months.
In this regard, all quarantine inspectors at the customs posts of the region and employees of district inspections were informed about the introduction of restrictions on potato exports, and control was strengthened. The border service of the State Revenue Department and local divisions of Kazakhstan Temir Zholy JSC were also notified of these restrictions.
On behalf of the akim of the region, Nuralkhan Kusherov, a headquarters was established, which began monitoring the border areas. Deputy Akim of the region Nurbol Turashbekov held an interdepartmental meeting at the Saryagash railway station, where the tasks of the headquarters were determined. At the Kazygurt customs post, he met with the border guards and familiarized them with the step-by-step plan.
The stabilization fund of Turkestan Socio-Entrepreneurial Corporation JSC is working in the region to provide socially significant food products. The stabilization fund has signed forward contracts for the supply of 4,309 tons of potatoes.
As of January 19, 110 tons of potatoes are stored in the warehouses of the stabilization fund, and 3,541 tons of potatoes are stored in the warehouses of peasant farms. These reserves will meet the needs of the region for 3 months. Also, the Ministry of Trade and Integration of the Republic of Kazakhstan has submitted a request for the supply of early-ripening potatoes from Pakistan from February to 500 tons per month (2,000 tons in 4 months).
It is predicted that 6844.4 hectares of early-ripening potatoes will be planted in the region this year (in May, June and July), with an expected harvest of 186.3 thousand tons. This will provide residents of the region and other regions with early-ripening potatoes starting in May.
