Head of State Kassym-Jomart Tokayev awarded the Shapagat medal to Kanat Akhmetov, a driver of one of the city's bus routes, for his social and public activity and civic responsibility.
The state award was presented by Deputy Akim of Almaty Askar Amrin. He noted that Kanat Akhmetov became the first representative of the labor professions to receive such an award in 2025, which was declared the Year of the Working Professions by the President.
"It is a great honor and a great responsibility for me to be awarded the state award. This is an additional incentive to work for the benefit of society, to be an example for colleagues and relatives. It is gratifying that the President pays attention to ordinary workers and recognizes their contribution to the development of the country," Kanat Akhmetov said.
Earlier, the bus driver of the city route No. 66, Kanat Akhmetov, received a gift and gratitude on behalf of the mayor of the metropolis, Yerbolat Dosayev, for his attention to a passenger in a wheelchair.
Kanat Akhmetov brings up four children, and has been working as a bus driver at Almatyelectrotrans for almost a year. A post on social media with a story about how he helped a passenger in a wheelchair get into a vehicle using the provided lift received a lot of warm responses from the townspeople.
