Minister of Tourism and sports of the Republic of Kazakhstan Yerbol Myrzabosynov met with President of the International Weightlifting Federation (IWF) Mohammed Jalud Al-Shammari and President of the Asian Weightlifting Federation Mohammed Youssef Al-Mana. The meeting was also attended by President of the Bahrain Weightlifting Federation Ibrahim Ishaq and head of the Kazakhstan Weightlifting Federation Hajji Hajiyev.
The parties discussed the achievements of Kazakh athletes at the World Weightlifting Championship, which recently ended in the capital of Bahrain, Manama, and outlined the directions of cooperation in the development of domestic weightlifting. In addition, the possibility of organizing the Kazakhstan Cup in this sport was considered. This tournament will be one of the most important competitions to identify new talents and increase the prestige of the national team in the international arena.
The meeting discussed the issue of increasing the number of men's and women's weight classes to seven at the 2028 Olympic Games in Los Angeles, USA, as well as the fight against doping. The parties noted the importance of introducing strict control over prohibited drugs and improving educational programs for athletes.
"Currently, more than 20 thousand people are systematically engaged in weightlifting in the country. 450 coaches serve to train athletes. The work of specialized sports boarding schools for gifted children and Regional Centers for the preparation of the Olympic Reserve is paying off," Yerbol Myrzabosynov said.
At the end of the meeting, the parties expressed their intention to further strengthen relations, popularize weightlifting and improve the condition of athletes.
