The Ministry of Internal Affairs has warned Kazakhstanis abroad about a new type of fraud.
Thousands of our citizens are abroad studying or working. They create Telegram and WhatsApp chats for compatriots, where they exchange information and help each other. Scammers can take advantage of this. By connecting to such chats, they position themselves as Kazakhstanis and offer currency exchange services on more favorable terms than usual.
Without linking those who want to change money directly, scammers provide victims with the details of persons involved in the sale of cryptocurrencies, or droppers. After receiving the money, ostensibly for currency exchange, they delete the correspondence and exit the chats.
There have already been cases of deception of our citizens in Korea, China and the USA.
"We urge citizens to be vigilant and not accept questionable offers," the ministry noted.
