During the week, 6,093 cases of acute respiratory viral infections were registered in Astana. The chief state sanitary doctor of the city, Aigul Shagaltayeva, told about the SARS epidemic situation in the capital at a briefing in the Communications Service, the official website of the capital's akimat reports.
The proportion of cases among SARS risk groups is: children under 14 years of age – 51.3%, children under one year of age – 4.2%, pregnant women – 2.3%. The incidence among schoolchildren is 17.1%, among children attending kindergartens – 10.1%.
"Due to recent media reports about the spread of metapneumovirus in the world, which refers to acute respiratory viral infections, I think it's worth explaining a little bit about this virus. Human metapneumovirus is one of the classic viruses that have been circulating in many countries for decades. Strains of this virus have been identified in our country, along with other types of infections that are actively circulating in space during the seasonal rise in the incidence of acute respiratory viral infections and influenza," Shagaltayeva explained.
The main symptoms of metapneumovirus are cough, runny nose, shortness of breath, fever, and headache. There is no specific treatment, but symptomatic treatment is used.
The sanvrach of the capital reminded about preventive measures that will help to avoid infection with acute respiratory viral infections, including metapneumovirus.
Personal hygiene. Wash your hands frequently and thoroughly with soap and use antiseptics. Avoid touching your face, especially your eyes, nose, and mouth, to reduce the chance of viruses.
Try to avoid large gatherings, especially indoors during epidemics. Using masks in public places, especially during the SARS season, can significantly reduce the risk of contracting this disease.
Ventilation of premises. Regular ventilation and cleaning with disinfection of surfaces will help reduce the concentration of viruses.
Proper nutrition. Include more vitamin-rich vegetables and fruits in your diet, especially vitamin D.
Strengthening the immune system. Regular exercise and enough sleep help the body to recover and protect itself from viruses.
