The Turkestan region has approved a "Regional roadmap for the development of cotton production and support for the cotton and textile cluster until 2027" in order to reduce dependence on exports and develop the textile and clothing industry. According to the roadmap, 9 cotton and textile clusters are being created in the region. As a result, 14,000 jobs will be created, and annual tax revenues will amount to 26.2 billion tenge.
The head of the region, Nuralkhan Kusherov, stressed the importance of developing the cotton cluster and instructed those responsible to speed up the work.
– Re-clarify the plans for the cotton cluster. Do not lose touch with approved investors and contribute to the implementation of projects. The heads of districts and heads of responsible departments should strengthen work on the development of the cotton cluster. Secondly, it is necessary to attract enterprises opened in the region to introduce water–saving technologies into cotton fields," Nuralkhan Kusherov said, assigning specific tasks to those who delay infrastructure projects to create a cluster.
Alibek Plalov, Acting Head of Agriculture of the Turkestan region, presented a report on this area. One enterprise is planned to be established in Sauran, Ordabasy, and Shardara districts, and two more are planned to be established in Maktaaral and Zhetysai. Construction of a multifunctional plant of the Turkestan Cotton Agro-Industrial Complex has begun in the Turan special economic zone, which will be engaged in deep processing of cotton and export of finished products. 1.2 thousand hectares of cotton were planted using new Chinese technology. The efficiency of the technology consists in saving water, energy, labor resources and mineral fertilizers, which makes it possible to obtain 60 quintals per hectare.
In 2025, it is planned to plant 135 thousand hectares of cotton throughout the region. Of this, 85,000 hectares will be planted using the traditional method, and 50,000 hectares will be planted using new technology.
