THE OPPORTUNITY TO RECEIVE A PRESTIGIOUS AMERICAN DIPLOMA AT A DRUG FARM: A JOINT EDUCATIONAL PROGRAM WITH THE ILLINOIS INSTITUTE OF TECHNOLOGY HAS BEEN ANNOUNCED
The joint program of Narkhoz University and the Illinois Institute of Technology allows graduates to receive two diplomas immediately after graduation – American and Kazakh.
On January 13, 2025, an institutional partnership agreement was signed in Chicago between Narkhoz University and the Illinois Institute of Technology.
"The dual degree program with the Illinois Institute of Technology is an important step in providing students from Kazakhstan with knowledge and skills that meet international standards. Narkhoz University offers unique opportunities that open the way to a global career in the IT-tech industry and the development of this sector in our country. This partnership testifies to the University's high reputation in the international educational arena. The international recognition of Narkhoz is also confirmed by the results in global ratings and accreditations," said Sayasat Nurbek, Minister of Science and Higher Education of the Republic of Kazakhstan.
As part of the cooperation, a double degree program will be implemented, which involves obtaining two bachelor's degrees from Kazakh and American universities in IT specialties in the 4+0 format. In other words, students will complete the entire cycle of study (four years) in Kazakhstan at Narkhoz University and will receive two diplomas after graduation. However, if they wish, they can also spend from a month to a year at the Illinois Institute of Technology – in this case, the training will take place in the 3+1 format.
"Partnerships between universities in Kazakhstan and top universities in the United States, such as Penn State, the University of Arizona, and the University of Minnesota, make it possible to strengthen the training of Kazakhstani specialists in dual degree educational programs according to the best international standards. Narkhoz University enters into an institutional agreement for the training of IT personnel with one of the leading universities, the Illinois Institute of Technology. This will create new prospects and opportunities for Kazakhstanis to gain access to world-class education. The Embassy of the Republic of Kazakhstan in the United States continuously supports and assists in the implementation of such programs," said Ambassador of Kazakhstan to the United States Yerzhan Ashikbayev.
The program is aimed at training specialists in the fields of Computer Engineering and Digital Technologies in English. It also includes the possibility of staying in the United States to gain additional practical experience through Optional Practical Training for up to three years.
"Narkhoz University is reaching a new global level of training for IT specialists. We have carefully selected a partner for the School of Digital Technology, and the Illinois Institute of Technology is ideally suited to implement our plans. We are confident that the joint program will provide students with global skills and open up new career prospects in the international arena," said Kanat Kozhakhmet, President of Narkhoz University.
The return visit of the Illinois Institute of Technology delegation to Kazakhstan is scheduled for March 2025. And students will be able to start studying under the new two-degree program as early as September 2025. This initiative is supported by the international organization Catalina Global, whose mission is to support global educational innovation projects.
Illinois Tech is a prestigious university known for its high quality of STEM education and focus on supporting career opportunities for graduates. The cooperation between the two universities has become part of the strategic initiative Narxoz Global-2030, aimed at bringing IT specialists to a new global level in accordance with international standards. The strategy involves building sustainable relationships with the world's leading universities, as exemplified by Narkhoz's partnerships with Queen's University Belfast, Penn State University and others.
