A storm warning continues to be in effect in the Karaganda region. Strong winds and snowstorms will remain in most of the region. In addition, from January 22 to January 24, a sharp drop in air temperature to minus 34 degrees is expected in the region.
In such weather, due to improper use of heating devices, overloading of electrical networks and related violations of fire safety rules, the risk of fire increases, representatives of the Emergency Department of the Karaganda region noted at a briefing at the site of the Regional Communications Service.
"In order to keep warm, our residents sometimes neglect fire safety rules by connecting several electrical appliances to the same network, which leads to short circuits and further fire," says Duman Daleshev, deputy head of the Emergency Department for the Karaganda region. – Therefore, we recommend using only those heating sources that are provided in an apartment building.
Thus, according to the Department of Emergency Situations, 139 fires have been registered in the residential sector in the region since the beginning of the heating season, where nine people were injured and 11 died. In addition, six people received carbon monoxide poisoning.
Rescuers are asked to strictly observe fire safety measures.:
- do not leave unopened cigarettes and matches;
- use only serviceable furnaces, gas and electric appliances;
- timely clean the chimney of soot (once every three months);
- do not overheat the oven or over-heat the heating stoves;
- do not entrust children with the furnace heating.
The Department of Emergency Situations also draws the attention of residents to compliance with the rules of operation of household gas appliances.:
- do not place gas cylinders near heating devices, especially when moving them from a cold room to a warm one.;
- do not leave unattended operating gas appliances;
- do not use an open flame to detect a gas leak;
- the use of gas appliances by children is strictly prohibited.
