Anna Nikanorovna Kotova, a veteran of the Great Patriotic War, is celebrating her 101st birthday today in the Osakarovsky district of the Karaganda region. The local authorities congratulated her on this date.
Anna Kotova, despite her advanced age, tries not to sit still. She has a wonderful memory, and she often recalls her fighting youth.
Anna Kotova was born in the Voronezh region. When the war began, following the example of her classmates, she began to ask to volunteer for the front, but the military commissar refused several times in a row to draft such a young girl into the army. But Anna's tenacity and perseverance played a role: in 1943, she was sent as a nurse to the 065 evacuation hospital of the 2nd Ukrainian Front. Here she helped save the lives of the wounded even after the end of hostilities: the girl was demobilized only in June 1946, when the unit was stationed in Hungary. She participated in combat operations from May 13, 1943 to May 9, 1945 as part of the 2nd Ukrainian Front. Anna Nikanorovna especially remembered the Battle of Kursk.
Anna Kotova was awarded the Order of the Patriotic War II degree, medals "For Victory over Germany in the Great Patriotic War of 1941-1945", "60 years of Liberation of Ukraine from the Nazi invaders", the military badge "Excellent Sanitary Service" and other commemorative orders and medals.
After demobilization and before taking a well-deserved rest, Anna Kotova worked in healthcare institutions in the Osakarovsky district.
