The positive temperature in the South-East of the country caused the melting of snow in the mountains. The village of Zharmukhambet on the border of the Ili and Karasai districts of the Almaty region was under threat of flooding. Having experience of participating in pre-flood events, servicemen of the Airborne Assault Troops came to the aid of the villagers.
About 10,000 people live in the village of Zharmukhambet. The weather has been warm all last week and the water level in the river has risen significantly. In some places, it began to flood the courtyards of residential buildings. After an emergency meeting held by the akim of the Ili district, it was decided to seek help from the Commander of the Airborne Assault Troops of the Armed Forces of the Republic of Kazakhstan.
- Major General Almaz Dzhumakeev sent 43 paratroopers to help the villagers to strengthen the river's shoreline. The soldiers work very quickly, almost without rest. The residents of the village of Zharmukhambet are sincerely grateful to them for their help," said Almas Bukenaev, Deputy Akim of the Ili district of the Almaty region.
In two days of work, in order to prevent flooding of residential areas, over 800 meters of water barriers were laid out, including over 2,500 bags.
It should be recalled that last spring, servicemen of the Airborne Assault Troops took part in flood control measures in the West Kazakhstan region. 300 paratroopers reinforced the banks of the Zhaiyk, Chagan, Derkul rivers and their tributaries in Chapaevsky, Zhaiyksky, Terektinsky, Darinsky and other suburban areas.
