The Ministry of Trade and Integration of the Republic of Kazakhstan is carrying out comprehensive work to stabilize prices for socially significant food products. Since the beginning of the year, 20 regional commissions have been held to ensure that the trade markup does not exceed 15%, during which 49 violations of the law were identified regarding potatoes, which are considered a socially significant product. Appropriate administrative measures will be taken on all identified facts.
As a result of meetings held by the Ministry of Trade and Agriculture with large retail chains, in particular, the Small and Magnum chains, the average price of potatoes in the Small chain in Astana has decreased to 280 tenge today, and to 185 tenge in the Magnum chain. According to the monitoring of the Trade Committee, the average price of potatoes in Kazakhstan today is 322 tenge. In social stores and SEC partners - in all regions of the country, there is a sufficient amount of potatoes and they are being sold below market prices.
The sale of potatoes accumulated in the stabilization funds of the regions continues. From December 2024 to January 19, 2025, 23.6 thousand tons of potatoes were sold, out of a total volume of 85.4 thousand tons. In the last 3 days, about 3 thousand tons of potatoes were sold, including 300 tons in Almaty, 600 tons in Shymkent, 300 tons in Turkestan region, etc. Today, there are 62 thousand tons of potatoes in stabilization funds.
These measures contributed to a decrease in prices in the domestic market.
