A side event on the theme "Kazakhstan's democratic transformations: Political and social rights" was held at the UN building in Geneva with the participation of deputies of the Mazhilis of the Parliament of the Republic of Kazakhstan, the Ombudsman of the Republic of Kazakhstan for the Rights of the Child and representatives of civil society.
The event was organized to present to the international community the achievements of Kazakhstan in the field of democratic transformation, as well as social and political reforms aimed at protecting human rights and developing an inclusive society, within the framework of the Universal Periodic Review of the Republic of Kazakhstan.
The moderator of the event, Lyazzat Kaltayeva, Chairman of the Inclusion Council under the Senate of the Republic of Kazakhstan, opened the meeting with an opening speech and outlined the main areas of the agenda.
The speakers of the event were deputies of the Mazhilis of the Parliament of the Republic of Kazakhstan B. Nazhmetdinuly, K.S. Seitzhan and Yu.V. Kuchinskaya made a presentation on the following topics:
- key political reforms, including constitutional amendments, the abolition of the death penalty, freedom of speech issues and improving voting rights.
- social reforms aimed at inclusion, including employment, access to health services, labor protection.
The Commissioner for the Rights of the Child of the Republic of Kazakhstan D.B. Zakieva shared her achievements in the field of protecting children's rights, such as strengthening the mandate of the Ombudsman, measures against bullying, suicide and sexual violence.
The Executive Director of the National Alliance of Professional Social Workers, D.G. Yesimova, spoke about the role of civil society in strengthening social policy and protecting the rights of vulnerable groups.
The side event brought together a wide range of participants, including representatives of international organizations, the diplomatic corps, human rights NGOs and the expert community, which contributed to an open dialogue on the development of human rights in Kazakhstan.
