During his working visit to Georgia, Kazakhstan's Vice Minister of Agriculture Amangali Berdalin held a meeting with Georgia's Vice Minister of Environmental Protection and Agriculture Apollon Kakabadze. The meeting focused on issues of bilateral cooperation in the agricultural sector.
Amangali Berdalin noted that interaction between Kazakhstan and Georgia in the agricultural sector occupies a leading place in the relations of the two countries. The dynamics of trade in agricultural products is showing positive growth: in 11 months of 2024, Kazakhstan's trade turnover with Georgia amounted to $65.4 million, which is 11.1% more than in the same period in 2023. At the same time, exports from Kazakhstan increased by 28.2%.
The Vice Minister noted the interest of Kazakhstani business in establishing exports of various goods to Georgia, including grain, flour, vegetable oils, meat and dairy products, honey and confectionery.
During the meeting, forms of veterinary certificates for breeding, working and slaughter cattle were signed, which creates favorable conditions for expanding trade cooperation. In particular, the high cost of meat products in Georgia opens up new opportunities for exporting products of Kazakhstani agricultural producers.
In addition, the Kazakh side proposed to intensify cooperation within the framework of a memorandum of understanding between the departments, which will allow improving interaction in the fields of animal husbandry, plant breeding, food and feed safety, veterinary medicine and agricultural product processing.
Apollon Kakabadze supported all proposals and promised to provide comprehensive assistance in the implementation of joint initiatives.
The issue of digitization of agriculture remains an important aspect for the Republic of Kazakhstan. The country is actively introducing information technologies to improve accounting, monitoring and traceability of products, and systems for identifying farm animals and veterinary and sanitary examination of meat are in operation. The plan is to integrate with the European Union countries in terms of monitoring the movement of livestock products. In this regard, the experience of Georgia in digitizing and automating processes in the agricultural sector, implemented jointly with FAO, is of particular interest.
Amangali Berdalin also expressed gratitude to FAO for its assistance in purchasing veterinary laboratory equipment for the “National Reference Center for Veterinary Medicine” and special equipment for the “Republican Anti-Episotic Squad” within the framework of the “One Health” project in Kazakhstan.
“This project is important for the country, as it is aimed at increasing capacity in the fight against antimicrobial resistance, preventing zoonotic diseases and developing epidemiological surveillance,” the Vice Minister said.
The meeting with representatives of the National Food Agency discussed issues of strengthening international cooperation in the field of veterinary medicine.
As part of the work program, he visited the Republican Veterinary Laboratory of the Ministry of Environmental Protection and Agriculture of Georgia, the regional veterinary office of the National Food Agency, and a slaughterhouse in Shida Kartli.
