Kanat Sharlapayev heads the Rugby Federation of Kazakhstan

On January 25, 2025, during the extraordinary general meeting of the Association of Legal Entities "QAZAQSTAN RUGBY", Kanat Bisimbaevich Sharlapayev, the current Minister of Industry and Construction of the Republic of Kazakhstan, was elected by a unanimous decision as the new President of the Federation.
The appointment of Kanat Sharlapayev opens up new prospects for popularizing rugby in Kazakhstan, attracting young people to this sport and strengthening the country's international status in the rugby environment.
Rugby development plans
Under the leadership of Kanat Sharlapaev, the Rugby Federation intends to focus on:
• Expanding the availability of children's and youth sections throughout the country;
• Support for women's teams that have already achieved significant success on the global stage;
• construction and modernization of specialized infrastructure;
• Active promotion of rugby through social networks, media projects and large-scale sporting events.
Special attention will be paid to the development of youth rugby and the involvement of young people in sports.
Rugby in Kazakhstan
Rugby in Kazakhstan continues to develop, especially noticeable are the successes of the women's national team, which ranks 19th in the world ranking and has repeatedly won prestigious international tournaments. At the same time, the men's national team and youth teams are also actively asserting themselves in the international arena.
The Rugby Federation plans to actively develop this sport by supporting young people and creating conditions for the involvement of new generations in a healthy and active lifestyle.
