“The development of the transport and logistics sector is a priority of great strategic importance. Our country is located in the very center of the Eurasian continent. This is an advantage that gives us great opportunities in global competition. We must leave high-quality roads and railways to future generations” -
Kasym-Jomart Tokayev, President of the Republic of Kazakhstan.
In 2024, the total volume of construction, reconstruction and repair work will amount to 12 thousand kilometers of roads. This is a record figure. During the road construction season, more than 25 thousand people and more than 10 thousand pieces of special equipment were involved in the reconstruction and repair projects of national highways.
The construction of 7 thousand kilometers of roads has been completed. In particular, construction work has been completed on the Karaganda - Almaty, Taldykorgan - Ust-Kamenogorsk, Aktobe - Kandyagash and Atyrau - Astrakhan highways. The implementation of the projects made it possible to ensure safe passage of vehicles, significantly reduce travel time, increase road capacity, and significantly improve transport connections between the country's regions.
Akimats put more than 3.6 thousand kilometers of local roads into operation. The largest volume of repair work was carried out in Kostanay, North Kazakhstan, East Kazakhstan, Aktobe and Pavlodar regions. 655 kilometers of roads were completed in Kostanay region, 611 kilometers in North Kazakhstan region, 305 kilometers in East Kazakhstan region, 301 kilometers in Aktobe region, and 272 kilometers in Pavlodar region.
More than 200 domestic companies participated in the road construction season. The share of domestic products among the materials used in road construction was about 96%. Thanks to the work carried out, the regulatory condition of local roads increased, reaching an average of 89% across the republic. In comparison, in 2019, this figure was 68%.
Three major infrastructure projects were implemented. Among them are the bridge over the Bukhtarma reservoir in the East Kazakhstan region, recognized as the longest in Central Asia, the double-track tunnel at the Shakpak Baba pass in the Turkestan region, and the railway crossing at the Shamalgan station in the Almaty region.
Each facility has its own advantages. The bridge over the Bukhtarma reservoir in the East Kazakhstan region, with a total length of 1,316 meters, connects seven districts. The time to cross the bridge by car is 4 minutes. The tunnel through the Shakpak Baba pass in the Turkestan region, with a total length of 840 meters, will ensure uninterrupted and safe traffic, regardless of adverse weather conditions. The project is part of the international transport corridor "Western Europe - Western China". The length of the crossing at the Shamalgan station in the Almaty region is 6 kilometers, the railway crossing will allow for the safe passage of vehicles.
As a result of the 2024 construction season, traffic will be opened to tourist attractions such as Balkhash, Alakol, Bokey-Orda, Altai, Bayanaul National Park, etc.
Three large railways with a total length of 1,100 kilometers are being built in Kazakhstan: "Dostyk - Moyinty", "Almaty Bypass Railway" and "Darbaza - Maktaaral". The implementation of the projects will allow for the continuous expansion of exports of Kazakhstani products and increase the country's transit potential. This year, the construction of the railway from Dostyk to Moyinty will be completed. The throughput of the section will increase 5 times. In addition, this year, the construction of a railway bypassing Almaty will be completed. This will help reduce the load on the railway lines in the region. The Darbaza-Maktaaral project will connect the South Kazakhstan region to international transit corridors.
In 2024, 1,400 kilometers of railways were repaired and 143 wagons were purchased.
Today, about 2.7 thousand jobs have been created and more than 1.4 thousand pieces of equipment have been put into operation within the framework of the construction of these railway projects. The construction and reconstruction of the railway network will give impetus to the development of the country's economy.
New road projects with a total length of 4.7 thousand kilometers will be implemented in stages. Of these, 3.7 thousand kilometers will be category I roads, and the remaining 1 thousand kilometers will be category II roads. Projects to be built in 2025:
• “Aktobe – Ulgaisyn” (234 km),
• “Karaganda – Zhezkazgan” (572 km),
• “Saryagash bypass” (102 km),
• “Kyzylorda bypass” (20 km),
• “Atyrau – Dossor” (86 km),
• “Rudny bypass” (16.9 km),
• “Zhanaozen – Kendirli” (156 km),
• “Petropavlovsk bypass” (8 km).
The implementation of these initiatives will develop local businesses and enterprises. In 2025, 31 thousand jobs will be created and additional investments will be attracted as part of the implementation of new road projects. Multi-lane roads help prevent and reduce traffic accidents.
The construction and modernization of railways and highways significantly improves business activity, and aims to improve the well-being of citizens by providing access to medical and educational institutions, grocery stores, cultural centers, etc.
