In the Saran reservoir in the Abay district, measures were taken to prevent fish mortality: holes were drilled, reed mats were laid, and water was aerated using pumps to provide oxygen to the reservoir. More than 20 people participated in the work, as well as five units of equipment.
In winter, insufficient oxygen and light enter the water from a thick layer of ice and snow, so the risk of fish mortality is high. To prevent this, specialists from the Nura-Sarysu Interregional Basin Fisheries Inspectorate, together with the Karaganda region's Department of Natural Resources and Nature Management, are constantly carrying out fish rescue operations.
Measures to prevent fish mortality will continue in other reservoirs of the region until the end of March.
There are a total of 179 local and two republican reservoirs in the Karaganda region. Of these, 104 reservoirs are assigned to nature users, who independently carry out preventive work. The remaining 75 reservoirs are included in the reserve fund, which is supervised by department specialists and fishery inspectors.
