A seminar on the introduction of artificial intelligence into the country's education system was held at Satbayev University, organized by the Ministry of Science and Higher Education of the Republic of Kazakhstan.
The event brought together vice-rectors for digitalization of the country's leading higher education institutions, experts in the field of AI, and representatives of state bodies. The moderator of the event, Nursultan Makhatov, Director of the Department of Digitization and Public Services of the Ministry of Science and Higher Education of the Republic of Kazakhstan, noted the importance of introducing digital tools such as large language models to ensure the country's digital sovereignty:
- We want to convey to the participants how artificial intelligence can transform the activities of the university from an academic department to a management department. This will help us ensure the digital sovereignty of our country in the future, he said.
In addition to explanations about the principles of artificial intelligence and the interaction of students and teachers in the new reality, the master class presented Kazakhstani developments such as the KazLLM large language model in the Kazakh language and the National State Intelligence Platform, which is currently developing chatbots for the "Electronic Government" portal.
The seminar participants were presented with a presentation by Atakan Hussein, Director General of the Institute of Intelligent Systems and Artificial Intelligence (ISSAI), who presented the KazLLM large language model, developed for processing, analyzing and generating texts. The model is based on 150 billion tokens in Kazakh, Russian, English and Turkish and is available on the Internet at https://oylan.nu.edu.kz/.
The seminar also presented the innovative program on artificial intelligence "AI-Sana", which creates favorable conditions for the development of AI technologies, training qualified personnel and giving a new impetus to the scientific and technological progress of the country.
The seminar ended with a foresight session aimed at developing strategies for integrating AI into educational processes, led by Oleg Metsik, Director of SIMKON. Participants practically developed plans for the introduction of artificial intelligence in their universities and discussed the prospects for using digital tools to improve the quality of education and management efficiency in higher education institutions of Kazakhstan.
