It is predicted that cargo transportation between Kazakhstan and Uzbekistan will increase threefold next year. In this regard, the Kaplanbek customs post on the border of the two countries will reopen next year. At the moment, the facility is undergoing major repairs. Akim of Turkestan region Darkhan Satybaldy, as part of a working trip to Saryagash district, got acquainted with the progress of repair work at the border checkpoints of Kazakhstan and Uzbekistan.
The Kaplanbek customs post, located on the territory of the Turkestan region, is mainly intended for cargo transportation. Renovation work began here two years ago. Construction is also underway on the Uzbek side. Upon completion of construction, the volume of cargo transportation through this point should increase threefold. At the same time, the main flow of pedestrians will be directed through the Zhibek Zholy checkpoint.
Work is also continuing on the modernization of the Atameken and Kazygurt border crossings. The reconstruction of the Zhibek Zholy point is planned for 2025.
The decision to repair large checkpoints on the Kazakh-Uzbek border was made on behalf of the Presidents of the two countries. A special working group has been set up for this purpose, and reconstruction projects are being implemented jointly by both sides. About 9 million people passed through the Zhibek Zholy checkpoint alone, intended mainly for individuals, last year. After the completion of the repair work, the capacity of all points will increase significantly.
