The Ookla analytics company has published a new ranking of internet speeds among countries for January 2025. Kazakhstan has significantly improved its performance in this ranking. Our country has risen 8 positions in mobile internet, taking 49th place. The download speed of mobile internet was 81.58 Mbps, the upload speed was 18.42 Mbps, and the latency was 18 ms. In the fixed broadband internet category, Kazakhstan has risen by +5 positions, taking 83rd place, where the download speed was 77.93 Mbps, the upload speed was 80.83 Mbps, and the latency was 5 ms.
This achievement is the result of state programs and systematic work by telecommunications operators to develop telecommunications infrastructure. In particular, in 2024, fixed communication networks were modernized, the coverage area of the 4G network was expanded, and the introduction of 5G technology began in large cities. Thanks to these measures, the internet speed has increased significantly, which has contributed to improving Kazakhstan's international performance.
The following initiatives will be implemented in 2025-2027 within the framework of the "Affordable Internet" national project:
Laying an optical fiber communication network in 3,010 villages to develop broadband internet;
Subsidizing the "last mile" project to bring the internet to every home in 1,120 villages;
Expanding 5G technology in cities of republican significance (Astana, Almaty, Shymkent) and regional centers;
Providing internet access via satellite to more than 250 remote and sparsely populated settlements.
Increasing internet speed will have a positive impact on the digital development of the country, the growth of the IT industry, the promotion of online education and e-commerce, and other important sectors of the economy. The development of the telecommunications sector is one of the main priorities of the Ministry. The agency continues to work to improve connectivity and internet quality across the country.
