The Ministry of Water Resources and Irrigation is holding seminars for farmers on the introduction of water-saving technologies in Almaty, Zhetysu, Zhambyl, Turkestan, and Kyzylorda regions. During the meetings, best practices in water conservation in the country will be presented and information will be provided on state support measures.
“The Ministry of Water Resources and Irrigation, together with the Ministry of Agriculture, has increased the amount of subsidies for farmers to create the necessary infrastructure, purchase and install water-saving systems from 50% to 80%. In addition, today, farmers who use water-saving technologies pay less for irrigation water. This is because when using water-saving systems, the amount of subsidy for irrigation water has been increased to 85% depending on the tariff,” said Berikbol Mandibayev, Director of the Department for the Development of Water-Saving Technologies.
Today, four domestic factories producing water spraying machines and drip irrigation equipment operate in Kazakhstan. This year, it is planned to open two more factories for the production of drip irrigation equipment in the Turkestan region, jointly with Chinese companies.
In addition, the Ministry of Water Resources and Irrigation is also testing innovative water-saving technologies. For example, last year, the Hungarian Water-Retainer preparation was tested in conjunction with the country's leading research institutes. The test results showed a positive effect on water conservation and productivity growth for certain crops. According to preliminary data, the use of the preparation allows saving about 20-37% of water, as well as improving productivity.
