In Almaty, the development of infrastructure for environmentally friendly types of transport continues within the framework of the "Clean Kazakhstan" program. This year, it is planned to build about 20 kilometers of bicycle paths in the city.
According to the City Mobility Department, in 2024, 2.4 kilometers of bicycle paths were equipped in the city as part of the construction of the Sayyn - Monke Bi interchange.
"This year, it is planned to equip 7.2 km of Abai Avenue to the city border and Sain Street from Ryskulov Avenue to Monke Bi Street. It is also planned to equip about 15 km as part of the construction of the BRT network along Raiymbek Batyr Avenue. In general, the systematic development of cycling infrastructure is provided for in the Master Plan of the Transport Framework until 2030,” the department noted.
Today, the city is equipped with 89 km of cycling infrastructure (25.15 km of cycle lanes, 63.8 km of cycle paths), 73 traffic lights, and 1,025 road signs aimed at providing services to cyclists.
It should be noted that the development of the cycle path network contributes to the improvement of urban infrastructure by providing alternative routes for residents. This not only reduces air pollution, but also reduces the number of vehicles on the roads, improving the overall transport situation in the city and reducing traffic jams.
