Preparation for the flood period: comprehensive preventive measures

Preventive and engineering work aimed at reducing the risk of flooding is being actively carried out in various regions of the country. This includes the construction and strengthening of protective dams and embankments, as well as the repair and construction of drainage systems, the replacement and installation of new water-carrying structures under roads, as well as the arrangement of canals and ditches. In dangerous areas, work is being carried out to deepen and strengthen the banks, and riverbeds are being cleaned. All these measures are aimed at increasing the safety of the population and minimizing damage from possible floods.
Thus, in the framework of the safe passage of the flood period, Astana city. Emergency Situations Department employees, together with the akim of the Baikonur district, the deputy prosecutor of the district, as well as specialists from the Kazhydromet RSE, visited the summer cottages of the Koyandy village of the Akmola region. In addition, together with employees of the Arshaly district Emergency Situations Department, they went to the Zhibek Zholy village to monitor the flood situation. Today, a dam with a length of 6.277 km, a height of 2 to 5.3 meters and a width of 12 to 34 meters is being built to protect this village from flood waters. The department's employees, together with the akim of the Nura district, Rishat Turdybekov, inspected the Gazmashapparat, Zapadnyi cottage societies, Urker residential area and snow dump, during which they identified places for digging a canal to drain melted snow from the snow dump.
The Almaty City Emergency Situations Department, together with the Kazseldenkorgau State Enterprise, conducted an aerial survey of glacial lakes from the Bolshoy Almaty River basin to the Turgen River basin, high-mountain glacial lakes, mudflow depressions and hotbeds, and landslide-prone areas. The event was aimed at monitoring the condition of water bodies, as well as preventing threats to the city's residents and infrastructure on the eve of spring snowmelt. According to the results of the aerovisual flight, it was determined that all glacial lakes are in winter mode, stationary lakes with minimal signs, and non-stationary lakes are practically empty.
In the Almaty region, mechanical cleaning of the Zharmukhambet riverbed was organized. In the Ili region, an inspection of the flood-prone area was carried out with the participation of the acting head of the regional emergency department, Dauren Orazbekov. The flood-prone area in the Zharmukhambet village was investigated, the Zharmukhambet riverbed along the “Montazhnik”, “Kirpichnik”, “Ivushka”, “Kristall” PKSTs was inspected, where mechanical cleaning of this riverbed was organized. In order to reduce the risk of flooding of private houses and ensure the unhindered passage of melted snow water, a 1.2 km long mechanical cleaning of the riverbed was carried out.
As part of preparations for the flood-prone period, a working group led by a state inspector visited the Zharma district of the Abay region. During the working trip, they visited the Ortabulak and Shar hydraulic structures. The akim of Zharma district reported on the work carried out to prevent flooding, the readiness of emergency services and the resources needed to respond to emergency situations.
Flood prevention work continues in Aktobe. The progress of measures taken to prevent spring floods was checked. Deputy Head of the Emergency Situations Department A. Zhanabergenov, together with the akim of the district, visited potentially dangerous areas in the Martok district and got acquainted with the work done. They inspected the dams built against floods in the villages of Saryzhar, Sarzhansay, Martok in Saryzhar village, the banks of the lower Elek River in Sarzhansay village, and the expansion of snowmelt channels in Martok village. These works will allow protecting settlements from floods. In addition, dams were raised, ditches and diversion channels were dug to divert snowmelt water to the villages. The condition of the Kazan-1 and Kazan-2 dams was also checked.
In Zhambyl region, as part of preparations for the spring flood period, specialists are conducting joint measurements to prevent the risk of flooding. Representatives of the branches of the Kazhydromet RSE and the Kazseldenkorgau SE, the Shu-Talas Basin Inspectorate, and the Kazsuchar RSE branch organized work on monitoring the water flow and level in the Talas River. The main goal of this event is to timely detect changes in the water level in the river, assess potential hazards, and implement necessary preventive measures. Joint measurements will allow to accurately determine the volume of water in the riverbed, coordinate the operation of hydraulic structures, and ensure the safety of the population.
Anti-flood work continues in the West Kazakhstan region. Flood prevention work is being carried out intensively in the Baiterek district.State inspector, deputy akim of the region B. Narymbetov, deputy head of the department E. Zhalelov and members of the commission inspected the work carried out in the district. Water supply lines, water collectors, and preparation passports of settlements were also checked.
