In 2024, the volume of production of building materials amounted to 1,336 billion tenge, an increase of 6.9% compared to 2023 (1,249 billion tenge). This was reported by the Directorate for the Development of Light Industry, Woodworking, Furniture Industry and Construction Materials Production of QazIndustry JSC. The growth in the industry was mainly due to an increase in the production of processed stone for monuments by 24.8%, the production of mineral and slag cotton by 22.4%, and the production of non-refractory ceramic bricks by 7.7%.

In general, the growth in the volume of production in the industry is associated with an increase in construction work by 18.5%. To some extent, investments also contributed to this. Last year, 3,542.5 billion tenge was invested in housing construction, which was 14.7% more than in 2023.

The largest volume of production was accounted for by the city of Astana (13.5% of total production), Karaganda region (9.3%) and Almaty region (9.1%).

Exports of building materials amounted to 276.3 million US dollars, an increase of 11.8% in monetary terms compared to 2023. The main export goods were refractory cement, Portland cement, reinforcement, ceramic insulating products, ceramic tiles and other products.

Imports of building materials products amounted to 1,300.2 million US dollars, an increase of 8.8% compared to 2023. The main imported goods include cement products, slag and mineral silicate cotton, ceramic tiles, Portland cement and other products.

The volume of investments in fixed assets in the sector amounted to 180 billion tenge. In 2024, the TechnoNikol-Kazakhstan LLP plant for the production of thermal insulation materials in the Almaty region, the Korcem LLP plant for the production of cement in the Zhambyl region, the Wang Sheng Ceramic LLP plant for the production of ceramic tiles in Shymkent, and other projects were launched.

The implementation of the national project "Modernization of the Energy and Utilities Sector", as well as the plan to commission 111 million square meters of housing by 2029, will provide impetus to the steady growth of production in the sector.
