Kazakh and Hungarian companies strengthen cooperation within the framework of the trade mission in Budapest

Budapest, March 19, 2025 - in the period from March 18 to 19, 2025, a visit of the Trade Mission of Kazakhstan to Hungary, led by the Minister of Trade and Integration of Kazakhstan Arman Shakkaliyev took place. The mission delegation also included the management of “QazTrade” JSC, “SPK Semey” JSC, “Kazakh Invest” and more than 20 Kazakh businessmen.

The purpose of the mission is to strengthen trade interaction between the two countries, to establish direct contacts between Kazakh enterprises and Hungarian buyers, as well as to hold bilateral meetings to expand the export and investment potential of our country.

The mission began with the opening of the Kazakh-Hungarian business forum, which included speeches by Arman Shakkaliyev, Minister of Trade and Integration of Kazakhstan, and Levente Magyar, State secretary at the Ministry of Foreign Affairs and Trade of Hungary, as well as presentations by QazTrade, Kazakh Invest, SPK Semey JSC and the Hungarian Export Promotion Agency HEPA to inform participants about the investment climate in the country and the potential for new investment initiatives.

In his speech, Minister of Trade and Integration Arman Shakkaliyev noted that Hungary is one of the key trade and economic partners of Kazakhstan in Central and Eastern Europe. Trade turnover between our countries for 2024 amounted to 195.8 million dollars, which exceeds the figures for 2023 by 4.4%.

In addition, the Kazakh Minister noted that Hungary is also an important investment partner of Kazakhstan, with which our country sees significant potential for further expansion of our partnership. Along with this, Arman Shakkaliyev noted the importance of using the Trans-Caspian international transportation route, which will accelerate the delivery of goods and commodities between our countries.

Within the framework of the Trade Mission, separate bilateral meetings were held between the Minister of Trade and Integration of the Republic of Kazakhstan Arman Shakkaliyev and the Minister for National Economy of Hungary Marton Nagy (co-chairman of the Kazakh-Hungarian IGC), Minister of Agriculture Istvan Nagy, State secretary of the Ministry of Foreign Affairs and Trade of Hungary Levente Magyar and Chairman of the Chamber of Commerce and Industry of Hungary Elek Nagy, during which the issues of trade and economic development of the two countries were discussed in detail.

During the meetings of businessmen in the “B2B” format, the participants discussed in detail the elaboration of both existing and new investment projects and the prospects for increasing investments in the country in such sectors as agro-industrial complex, mechanical engineering, information technology and logistics. Over 50 companies from the Hungarian side were represented in the work of the business forum.

Furthermore, on March 18 and 19, 2025, representatives of Kazakh companies visited the head offices of “Gedeon Richter” (pharmaceuticals), “Naturtex” (down processing, textiles), “Hunent” (waterfowl) and “4iG Nyrt” (IT and telecommunications), as well as the Hungarian University of Agriculture and Life Sciences “MATE”, which is engaged in research on waterfowl breeding. At the above meetings, the parties discussed the prospects for the development of the industry and opportunities for cooperation with Kazakhstani business.

Generally, within the framework of the Trade Mission, agreements on mutual cooperation were concluded between “QazTrade” JSC and the Hungarian Chamber of Commerce and Industry “MKIK”, as well as the Hungarian Export Promotion Agency “HEPA”.

Following the results of the mission, Kazakhstani businessmen had an opportunity to build a dialog with their Hungarian colleagues, discussing plans for upcoming events and inviting them to Kazakhstan to consider future business initiatives. 

For reference: according to Kazakh statistics, trade turnover between Kazakhstan and Hungary for 2024 amounted to 195.8 million dollars (exports 5.3 million, imports 190.5 million dollars). For 2023 trade turnover between Kazakhstan and Hungary amounted to 187.6 million dollars. This is 8.9% higher than in 2022 (172.2 million dollars).
The main exports from Kazakhstan to Hungary are pelts, feathers, down and other parts of birds, propylene polymers, compressors, fans, etc.  The main goods imported to Kazakhstan from Hungary are: medicines, machinery and mechanisms for harvesting and threshing of agricultural crops.
