Almaty in a week: 50,000 trees, 8000 cubic meters of garbage and record landscaping

The third week of the environmental campaign "Almaty is our common home" called "Clean Yard" has ended. Thanks to the active participation of residents and utilities, significant results have been achieved in the improvement of the city.
Within the framework of the week, large-scale sanitary cleaning of urban areas was carried out:
• 3 neighborhoods, 47 streets, ditches, sidewalks and pedestrian zones have been cleared.
• 62 aboveground and 54 underground passages were washed.
• 4,811 basements of residential buildings have been disinfected and cleaned.
• 3,007 new street urns have been installed in parks and busy streets.
• More than 1,400 container sites and 8,000 containers have been washed, disinfected and deratized.
As part of the Clean Air campaign, emissions were monitored at 19 stationary environmental posts. 7,067 vehicles were checked, of which 1,301 (18.5%) exceeded emission standards.
Work continues on the certification of landscaping: 5,798 (96%) out of 6,039 objects have been completed. As part of the ongoing repairs, work was carried out on dimpling, dismantling of destroyed granite, installation of new hatches, and lifting hatches on 11 streets of the city. Work continues on the streets: al-Farabi Ave. (tunnel interchange ave. Nazarbayev Street), Satpayev Street (from Rozybakieva Street to Tlendieva Street), Salykova Street (from Utegenova Street to Taldy Street).
As part of the "Paint your Fence" campaign, 3,125 liters of paint were given to residents of the city.
66 people took part in the competition "The best employee of public utilities" – employees of public utilities, city enterprises and contractors. According to the results of the competition, 24 people were awarded in each district. The winners received certificates for: I place – 150,000 tenge, II place – 100,000 tenge, III place – 50,000 tenge.
According to the campaign "Hand over expired medicines – save nature, 33,553 units of expired medicines have already been received at reception points, which is more than 122 kg of medical waste. Boxes for collecting expired drugs have been installed in 36 city polyclinics.
As part of the "Help your Neighbor" campaign, cleaning was carried out at 9 addresses in one week, and assistance was provided to pensioners and the disabled.
The culmination of the week was the large–scale Almaty Clean & Green campaign on March 23, which was attended by more than 50,000 people - residents, volunteers, stars, athletes and representatives of the city administration.
During the campaign, 8,000 m3 of garbage was collected and removed, over 10,000 trees (apple trees, elms, maples, acacias) were planted.
Next week is dedicated to landscaping, cultural heritage preservation and eco-education. It is planned to plant trees, hang bird nests, clean 160 monuments and environmental seminars.
