Under the chairmanship of Prime Minister Olzhas Bektenov, a national meeting was held to discuss the development of the country's fuel and energy sector. The focus was on increasing new energy sources, enhancing the capacity of electrical networks in the southern regions, and improving energy efficiency.
The akim of the region, Nurlybek Nalibayev, participated in the meeting via videoconference. A 240 MW thermal power plant is currently under construction in Kyzylorda, supported by the Head of State. The project costs KZT 215 billion, and the investor, the Turkish company Aksa Energy, has already invested over KZT 137 billion. The work is 70% complete.
The new thermal power plant is expected to fully meet the region's electricity needs, with any surplus supplied to neighboring areas. The connection of the gas pipeline to the facility has been completed, with KZT 15 billion allocated from the regional budget for this purpose. Following the President's visit to Qatar, an agreement was signed for the construction of a combined-cycle plant with a capacity of 1,100 MW, valued at KZT 800 billion. A land plot of 280 hectares in the Syrdarya region has been designated for this project, which is scheduled for completion in 2028. A feasibility study is currently being developed. The project will also include the construction of high-voltage power lines "Kyzylorda-Zhezkazgan" and "Kyzylorda-Shymkent," each with a capacity of 500 kilovolts. Overall, the total length of power lines in the region exceeds 10,000 kilometers, with more than 2,000 substations. The wear level of these substations is 62%. Last year, 741 kilometers of power lines and 127 substations were repaired. This year, KZT 15 billion has been allocated for the modernization of 130 substations and 314 kilometers of overhead power lines.
