On January 9, the Bostandyk District Court of Almaty announced the verdict for M. Zholdybaev, the director of the Department of Capital Construction of the utility company "Almaty Su."

He was found guilty of attempting to embezzle KZT 75 mln from a businessman under the pretext of signing acts of completed work and transferring budget funds under state procurement contracts for the capital repair of the city’s sewage and water supply systems.

Zholdybaev was sentenced to 5 years of conditional imprisonment, with a 5-year ban on engaging in activities related to the management of commercial and financial organizations.

Following a protest from the supervising prosecutor, the verdict of the first-instance court was amended by the Judicial Panel of the Almaty City Court.

M. Zholdybaev was sentenced to 5 years of imprisonment and banned from engaging in activities related to the management of commercial and financial organizations for 5 years.

The defendant was taken into custody in the courtroom.

The verdict has entered into legal force.
