Kazakhstan and Uzbekistan signed “Road map” to protect the rights of migrant workers

Minister of labor and social protection of population of Kazakhstan Berdibek Saparbayev held a number of bilateral meetings at the International conference organized in honor of the 100th anniversary of the International labor organization (ILO), which was held within the framework of the XII Astana economic forum.

Thus, during the meeting with the Minister of employment and labor relations of the Republic of Uzbekistan Sherzod Kudbiyev, a Joint action plan ("Road map") on the implementation of the Agreement between the Government of the Republic of Kazakhstan and the Government of the Republic of Uzbekistan on labor activity and protection of the rights of migrant workers for the period from 2019 to 2020 was signed.

This intergovernmental agreement was signed by the heads of departments on April 15, 2019 in Tashkent during the state visit of the President of RK K. K. Tokayev to the Republic of Uzbekistan.

Signing of the road map will contribute to further strengthening of cooperation between countries in the field of regulation of the labor migration process.

Under the intergovernmental agreement, migrant workers have the right to rest, to receive a guaranteed amount of free medical care for acute diseases that pose a danger to others in accordance with the legislation of the host state and the terms of the employment contract. Wages and other working conditions of migrant workers are regulated by an employment contract with the employer in accordance with the legislation of the host state.

Following the meeting, the Ministers noted that they highly appreciate the business and friendly contacts established between the departments and expressed their readiness for further cooperation within the framework of the signed international document.

In addition, B. Saparbayev held a meeting with the Director of the Department of membership services and communication development of the International Social Security Association (ISSA) of the UN Graham Minton. The parties discussed topical issues of cooperation. During the meeting, the Minister stressed the importance of cooperation with the ISSA and the interest in further enhancing cooperation in priority areas.
